Hey, that sounds like it's saved in a multibyte character set. Maybe without the identifying marker. My character set knowledge is quite old and a bit hazy, but if you still have the file I would like to give it a look. (Especially since abi is supposed to recognise and correctly import multibyte-char text files) Could you make a quck bugreport at bugzilla.abisource.com and attach the file?
I was just kicking myself about that, actually--I did not think to save a copy of the damaged file, and I can't recall for the life of me what the control character sequence was. You're probably quite right about it being an unmarked multi-byte character set. It may actually have been the file size that was the problem rather than the codes themselves, however, or some combination of the two--the control character inserted itself between every single letter, resulting in a substantially sized file. I don't know if Abiword has an upper-limit on that or not.
I also should make clear that Abiword in no way contributed to creating the problem--Apple's TextEdit bears sole responsibility on that count. Which is probably why I didn't think of saving the file to generate a bugreport, Abiword was just something I tried in passing, I didn't consider it a bug in the program. Sorry I can't be of more help, thanks for checking up on the issue--you guys are doing great work, I'm looking forward to subsequent releases! |

Couldn’t this user have opened the file as a text file in AbiWord and done the same thing? It would be interesting to find out what the control character was and where it came from…. - http://www.indigomoonsystems.com/status/status.php?/a...

The Abiword Community Outreach project was wondering about my post from last Friday in which I mentioned that Abiword couldn't handle a messy text file while Microsoft's Notepad (included with Windows) was more than equal to the task. They have, if I'm n

Original Mention, Blogger’s Reply We have yet another reply to a mention here on the ACOP blog, this time from the user who had a funky file that only opened in Notepad, and which didn’t open in AbiWord. I would agree that notepad is a rel...
